At the museum with social media

A social media communication strategy for eight museums is the mandate we have been fulfilling for the past year for the museums of the City of Neuchâtel. This joint and consistent communication for these various institutions, whether they belong to the city or not, has been implemented, in particular through a shared identity and website.

Emphasize user-friendliness

On this basis, our job is to continue the process by promoting museums on Facebook and Instagram. The aim is to highlight the friendly atmosphere of these venues. Far from being dusty and austere, the city's various museums are perfect places to have a good time, enjoy the cool air and tranquility, learn something new, and discover lots of interesting things along the way. Above all, this is a great initiative by the city to attract tourists from outside the canton.

A strategy

The first step for us is to get to know the museums, visit them, and understand their specific characteristics. We then develop a digital strategy and editorial plan for Facebook and Instagram posts. The museums provide us with photos, videos, and other materials. We finalize the visuals and write the texts in French and German. We then post everything and sponsor it, particularly through campaigns on both social media platforms.

Several types of posts

There are several types of posts. They can promote exhibitions, evoke particular atmospheres, address specific themes, or even present the journeys between one institution and another. We sometimes post funny anecdotes or quizzes online to generate interaction. On average, we post twice a week. Museums can focus on their own networks, and this additional general communication is done without any resources on their part.

Results

And what were the results? From April to September 2022, we gained 65.8% new followers with 842,262 impressions(the number of times posts were displayed on profiles)and a reach of 163,902(the number of people who saw content from social media accounts). We are quite satisfied with these results. And so are the museums. So, if social media isn't necessarily your cup of tea, but you realize that a presence on these platforms is necessary for your business or brand, come and discuss it with us!
